Activities

2015-2016
• Environment Day - A one day seminar& paper presentation competition was organised on the focal theme ‘Seven Billion dreams- one planet consume with care’ by the Department of Botany on 11.06.2015.Dr. S. Devanesan, Professor, College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Dr. Boby T. Edwin, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Botany, T K M Arts and Science College, Kollam and Dr. Chrips N. R. were the resource persons.
• Ozone Day – A one day seminar was conducted on the topic ‘Thirty years of healing the ozone together’ on 16.9.2015 organised by the Department of Botany. Dr. Rubin José A. S, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, FMN college, Kollam, Dr. C. A. Lal, Assistant Professor, School of Distance education, University of Kerala and Dr. T.R. Vinod, Research Director, Centre for Environment and Development, Trivandrum were the resource persons. A paper presentation competition was also conducted along with the seminar.
• Wetland day was observed on 12.2.2016 organised by the Department of Botany. Dr. Sabu Joseph, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Science, University of Kerala, Sri. C. Rajendran, Deputy Conservator of Forest (Rtd), Government of Kerala & Dr. Chrips N.R. Research Associate, Centre for Environment& Development, Trivandrum were the resource persons.

2016-2017
• The Department of Botany organised a special talk on Health Informatics Management on 15.3.2017. Ms. Chithra, Manager, Center for Health Information Studies and Solutions (CHISS) was the resource person
• Students of the Department of Botany visited the ‘Providence Home’ at Killy, Kattakada, TVPM on 22.12.2016
• Students of Botany department analysed the quality of• drinking water in the surrounding local areas of Kattakada as part of the project work and given informed the people about their findings
• Environment Day organised by the Department of Botany on the topic ‘Go Wild for life, zero tolerance for the illegal wild life trade’ on 16.6.2016. Dr. T.S. Swapna, Prinicpal Scientific Officer Kerala State Biodiversity Board, TVPM & Dr. Asha V.G., Assistant Professor & Head, NSS College Nilamel were the resource persons. An intercollegiate quiz competition was conducted on the same day
• Ozone Day - One day seminar and poster designing competition organised by Department of Botany on 30.9.2016 on the focal theme ‘Ozone & Climate: Restored by a world united. Dr. Boby T. Edwin, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Botany, TKM Arts and Science College, Kollam & Sri. Udayan Nair, Deputy Range Forest Officer, Social Forestry, Trivandrum were the resource persons.
• National Science Day celebrations were held on 23.2.2017. Deliberations were done on the topic ‘Science and Technology for Specially Abled Persons’ Dr. Samuel N. Mathew, Executive Director, National Institute for Speech and Hearing, TVPM inaugurated. Dr. Helen, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, University of Kerala, Kariavattom, TVPM and Dr. Sandhya G.S., Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, University College, TVPM were the resource persons

2017-2018
• An exhibition was organised by the Department of Botany in connection with National Science day celebrations on 28.2.2018 and 1.3.2018 sponsored by KSCSTE. Students from nearby schools and colleges participated
• Wet Land Day: A one day seminar was organised on 9.2.2018 on the focal theme ‘Wetlands for a sustainable urban future’ by the Department of Botany. Dr. Beena Lawrence, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Womens Christian College, Nagercoil, Dr. Ayona Jayadev, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Science, All Saints College, TVPM were the resource persons
• A seminar was organised by the Department of Botany on 1.3.2018 in connection with National Science Day celebrations sponsored by KSCSTE, Govt. of Kerala. Dr. Thomas Mathew, Principal, Medical College, TVPM was the chief guest. Dr. Mani Shankar Babu, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, University College, TVPM was the resource person

2018-2019
• The Department of Botany observed World Environment 5.6.2018 and was sponsored by KSCSTE.
• A training program was organised by the Department of Botany on Analytical Equipment on 23.10.2018 for the PG students.
• Mr. Renjan Mathew Vargheese State Director WWF India, Kerala and Mr.A.K. Sivakumar Senior Education Officer were the resource persons in the Wild Life Week celebrations 2018 celebrations were organised by the Dept. of Botany on 18.12.2018.

• Ms. Anchana A.V., III DC Botany and Jijitha Raj R.L., attended RCTC at Gwalior, Madhaya Pradesh
• A team comprising of following members, Mr. Amal Raj III DC Economics, Mr. Shejin R.M. I DC Botany, Mr. Rahul R., III DC Physics, Mr. Jojodas T.R., I DC B.Com, Mr. Vineeth G., II DC Economics Mr. Sajeev S., IDC Physics., Mr. Anandu S., IDC Statistics, Mr. Rahul V. Nair., II DC Botany., Mr. Sandeep J., Mr. Anandu Sasi became the runners-up in University Wrestling championship. Ms. Anjana A.V., III DC Botany and Ms.• Saranya S. Mohan, II DC Chemistry won silver medal in the wrestling competition held at the University level.

• A team of students Shijin V.M., II BSc Botany, Jeswin Saju A., II BSc Zoology, Shejin R.M., III BSc Botany, Amal Raj., III BA Economics, Nandu Krishna I BA Economics and Sajeev S., III BSc Physics became runners- up in the University of Kerala Wrestling Championship
